gallery 023

Gallery 023 serves as the student gallery in the Schwayder Art Building at the University of Denver. Although the gallery had existed for quite a few years, new management sought to update the identity to a modern, sleek gallery. This was the logo that they ultimately chose.

Dana Perkins of Club Cycling approached me with a project for a website redesign. Although the redesign of the identity was ultimately scrapped due to sponsorship issues, the logo concept was well-received and placed here for posterity.

gallery 023 (website upcoming)

Gallery 023 serves as the student gallery in the Schwayder Art Building at the University of Denver. Although the gallery had existed for quite a few years, new management sought to update the identity to a modern, sleek gallery.

My proposed identity focused on a few different elements: community, modernism and cleanliness. The knocked out "023" from a speech bubble humanizes the "gallery" wordmark while also implying that the gallery is run largely by the students themselves.

DU Club Cycling (old website, working on new)

Dana Perkins of Club Cycling approached me with a project for a website redesign. Although the redesign of the identity was ultimately scrapped due to sponsorship issues, the logo concept was well-received and placed here for posterity.

The concept employs two symbolic elements: the mountains (symbolic of Denver itself) and an implied bicycle gear. The ultimate goal of this logo was to make a bold statement about the club's purpose while remaining professional (with a more modern twist) in its presentation. The gear encircles the mountains, elevating its importance in the mark, while the colors tie the mark back to DU. Where this logo really shines is its versatility and possibility for motion; an alternate letterhead variant is included in the image above.

art by everyone (proposal & concept)

In "art by everyone," a user will be able to input several variables that will poll various aggregate networks (blogger RSS feeds, flickr photos, Adobe kuler color schemes, etc.), and finally output some form of static image. The conept stems from twisting previously established concepts of authorship while keeping the interactivitiy at a high level, thereby allowing anyone to approach the work and make something from it.

The logo, therefore, attempts to bridge the gap between the conceptual statement and an attractive, friendly mark. Helvetica is used in a slightly tongue-in-cheek method as most view it as the "universal typeface." The scissor marks embody the authorship issues the work raises--cutting other people's work to make something one's own. Lastly, the color scheme (the same this website uses) has always felt friendly and modern, allowing the work to become intriniscally approachable.
