flickrMontage focuses on averaging color space a la Jim Campbell’s “Illuminated Averages.” By polling tags and users on flickr, the user will be able to generate their own "illuminated average."
The focus of this project was using the flickr API (an extensive collection of polling) through Actionscript to allow users to search the flickr database. Performing a search pulls medium-sized photos (500×500px) according to the search criteria, and then uses an algorithm to blend the photos together.
The general openness of the concept was something I was instantly attracted to--a user can hop in the driver's seat and make (in a way) their own remixes from existing material. If a user has an extensive collection for one tag, they can enter their username, select that tag and instantly generate a montage.
Eventually I hope to make this open-source, but a lot of commenting still has to go into the actionscript. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
